Corporate Health and Wellness Stats
Want to learn more about health and productivity before you decide to invest in it? Here are some corporate health and wellness stats to help you make that decision.
|
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that companies save anywhere between $1 and $6 for every dollar they invest in health and productivity.
How is that money saved? According to National Corporate Wellness, a meta-analysis of 42 published studies of worksite health promotion programs shows on average:
- 30% reduction in workers compensation and disability claims costs
- 28% reduction in sick leave absenteeism
- 26% decrease in health-related costs.
|
How Can It Be So Much?
|
The United States has spent about $2.5 trillion on health care in 2009, or over 17.5% of its GDP. This represents a per person expenditure of $7,500. As an employer, you pay over one-third of these costs, or more than $2,500 per employee.
According to the National Coalition on Health Care, health care premiums for employers have grown by 120 percent since 1999, which means they increase faster than inflation, income or average organizational revenues.
In a report published in 2002, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified that 75% of healthcare spending was due to illnesses that were preventable.
|
Sick time alone costs employers around $600 per employee per year, and those who are in poor condition physically or mentally are driving these costs up. Please note that this figure does not include indirect costs such as overtime for employees filling for the absent ones, missed deadlines, lost sales and reduced morale.
Dr. Ron Goetzel, Director of Cornell University's Institute for Health
and Productivity Studies, further warns
that presenteeism costs can
outweigh an employer's medical costs.

If You Don’t Take Charge Now, You’ll Regret It Later
The current exorbitant health care costs make it very hard for companies to grow. Not only do they impede other valuable expenses such as research, product development and marketing, but in the short-term, hiring more employees increases costs more than it does revenues.
The good news is that with SaS support, you can increase productivity and slow the growth of health care costs at the same time. Our
corporate wellness programs are effective, easy to implement and convenient for employers and employees alike.
These corporate health and wellness stats speak for themselves. Investing in your employees’ health can save you headaches, heartaches, and increase your operating income – some studies show by as much as 50%. It will make you an employer of choice and contribute to your employee retention efforts.
